Multi-Year Language Access Resources Project

Welcome to this online course on Cultural Responsiveness in Serving Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. During this training, we will define the term “cultural responsiveness” and outline how service organizations can improve their capacity in this regard. To set the context, we’ll first present a few statistics on domestic violence and sexual assault.

Domestic violence and sexual assault harm millions of people all across America.

  • More than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • On a typical day, domestic violence hotlines receive approximately 21,000 calls, about 15 calls every minute in California.
  • Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crimes in California.

Thank you for your interest in cultural responsiveness in serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. You are no doubt aware of the seriousness of these destructive behaviors, and you know that there are many types of service organizations involved in assisting survivors.

Whatever your role in this important work, we hope you find this online training useful!
